Liam and his Bus

Here is a picture of Liam with his Bus...his current favorite toy. It was a $3 yard sale bargain, and it's always his go-to toy- he never gets tired of it. And Josh and I don't get tired of the song that it sings playing in our heads over and over and over...

You know you live too close to Detroit When....

They put special devices in the shopping carts at Wal-Mart to disable the carts if they are taken out of the parking lot. This sign is on every cart.

Happy Birthday Josh!

Josh's birthday was January 14th, so I made him this cake to reveal his present. The Bear on the cake is skiing (using his candy cane ski poles and chewing gum skis). Josh has wanted to learn to ski or snowboard ever since we moved up here, so I got him lessons for the sport of his choice at Mt. Brighton, about an hour from our house. I chose Mt. Brighton because it was one of the two closest to our house, and it was very close to our good friend's house, and she had agreed to watch Liam for the day (Thanks Jeannette!!)

I chose to Ski, because it seemed like a VERY bad idea to glue both of my feet to one board and slide down a hill standing up. Josh chose to snowboard. I think it's because he secretly thinks snowboarders are cool. It was so much fun! Except my instructor is now known as "Ilga the Ski Nazi". She was at least 65 years old, so I was thinking "good, she'll be nice", but she yelled at me pretty much the whole time, saying things like "I can do it, why can't you?? (Um, maybe because you're a ski instructor, and this is the first time I've ever even been this CLOSE to a pair of Skis!). I ended up getting the hang of it, and by the end of my two hour lesson, I could weave in and out of an obstacle course of ski poles that she had set up for me-- most of the time. If I got going to fast I would freak out and head straight for the bottom of the hill full speed ahead.

Josh was able to stand up on the snowboard and make it down the hill most of the way, which, from what I understand, is pretty good for your first time boarding- it's supposed to be "Harder to learn, but easier to master" than skiing.

All in all, we had a blast, but were only there for about three and a half hours before we were exhausted and ready to get Liam and head home. And, it was FREEZING. The high that day was 9, which is actually the warmest it's been since- I ran some errands early on Friday morning, and it was -12 when I left and the windchill was in the -20's. Brrr.

I know he's a little old for a bear on his cake, but I didn't think I could do a man made out of cake!

Liam's "First" Haircut

While we were home at Christmas, we decided that it was time to get Liam's hair cut. It was beginning to resemble the mullet warn by Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. This was his first "real" haircut...Josh and I had trimmed it ourselves a few times, mostly the back and sides, but my fried Kelly is a licensed cosmotologist, and she did MUCH better than we ever could! Thanks Kelly!

We ended up putting him in the bathroom sink, because the highchair was too tall for her to cut the back. The sink "trapped" him and kept him still, and he LOVED it...see his handfull of Q-tips?

It. Won't. Quit. Snowing.

It has been FREEZING here for the past couple of weeks, and it snows every day, at least a little bit, without fail. Yuck. Before Christmas, the only big snow that we got was on the day that we left to go home, so Liam hadn't had much of a chance to play in the snow. After a big storm a few weeks ago, we all bundled up and headed outside.

At first, he's not sure what to think.

Then he decided that he HATED it.

But it was okay again as long as he was being held.

And the perfect ending to a freezing cold day...Josh made dinner- Chicken Parm and it was SO good!

Liam's First Christmas!!

We set out for Illinois/Missouri on Friday, December 19th, after Josh got home from his neurology rotation. We had gotten 12 inches of snow that day, so as Josh was pulling in, his car got stuck, because the snow had come down so fast the plows couldn't keep up. We dug the car out of the snow, and helped a few neighbors dig out as well, and then we were on our way- we debated on whether or not to wait until morning when the roads were better to leave, but after much research, we found out that the roads were only bad for the Michigan portion of our trip, and that I-75 (the interstate that we are on the whole time we're in Michigan) was the only road that HAD been cleared. The ride was uneventful- we made it to Indianapolis with no trouble to our awaiting hotel- Liam only cried for about 20 minutes the whole 5 hours, so I thought he did well. The next morning we made it to my parents...Liam did well in the car again.

We spent the day and next night at my parents, before going to spend some time with Josh's family. On Christmas day we drove back to my parents to spend half of Christmas and the rest of our trip (except Saturday, which we drove to be with the other side of Josh's family) there. It was GREAT to see our families, and spend some time with everyone. As an added bonus, it got up to 75 degrees there a couple of days, which was a much needed break from the Michigan snow, ice, and freezing temps. Unfortunately, I kept forgetting to bring my camera, but here a a few photos that I snapped of him with some of his new things when we got home, and one of him with my mom while we were down there.

What Cute Jammies with is name on the Butt Flap!

Keeping warm in his new hooded towel after a bath.

More cute Jammies!

Riding his new Rocking Horse...he LOVES this thing, but right now for limited amounts of time, because he still has to wear the saddle, and I think he feels trapped if he's on there too long. You can tell by his smile how much he's enjoying it!

OASIS concert

Josh and I went for our first official night out on December 13th. It's the first time that we left Liam with a babysitter, other than my mom for a little while, and went out together. I bought Josh tickets to the Oasis concert a long time ago. Oasis is the band that sings "Wonderwall" and "Don't look Back in Anger", but they have a lot more going on for them than that one album. While they aren't that popular in the U.S., they are often at the top of the European charts. They don't tour the U.S. often, and when they do, it's usually just a few venues. This time, Detroit was one of them, so we packed up and went to a great show...except MapQuest failed to mention that there are two roads with identical names within two miles of each other, so we were lost in the middle of nowhere for over 30 minutes. We made it to the concert about an hour and a half after it started, but miraculously, the opening band was still playing! We didn't miss anything!
